About Reach Out and Read Washington State
Reach Out and Read Washington State is a Coalition of the Reach Out and Read national program. Launched in 2007, Reach Out and Read Washington State helps makes books part of a healthy childhood through programs in medical offices across Washington. Reach Out and Read is an integral part of the state’s Early Learning Plan. The following is an outline of our program services.
Access: Expand Reach Out and Read programs to children throughout Washington state
We recruit and support new medical practices to become ROR Sites. We explain the program, brainstorm partnerships and fundraising ideas, and help with the process from application, through training, to implementation. If you know of a medical practice that might be interested, please contact us.
Quality: Assure high quality ROR programs through training and technical assistance
We do the initial training of medical providers, bringing an in-person trainer wherever feasible. Other options include on-line and video-based trainings. We also work with established programs to assure ongoing training keeps providers up-to-date. If you are a ROR program with questions about training, please contact us.
Sustainability: Maintain ROR programs through statewide fundraising and support
Reach Out and Read is a long-term program, and we want all programs that start to continue. ROR WA provides fundraising and other supports to help assure sustainability. ROR WA does statewide fundraising for our programs, and works to develop partnerships and provide technical assistance to programs to help them with their local partnership efforts. If you would like to partner with us, or know of other potential funders or supporters, please contact us.
Integration: Make Reach Out and Read part of early learning efforts across Washington
ROR is a proven program on its own; yet we know it will be more effective and sustainable if it is integrated into early learning systems across the state. Reach Out and Read is an integral part of our statewide Early Learning Plan, and supports all 5 Recommendations for Action in 2010. ROR Washington State works connects ROR programs with local early learning partnerships and coalitions. We encourage local efforts to recruit and support ROR practices. If you are a community partner wanting to connect with ROR at the state or local level, please contact us.
